Panniculectomy: Surgical Removal of Excess Abdominal Skin

Comprehensive Consultation with Dr. Holland

Dr. Sarah Holland provides thorough consultations for panniculectomy, assessing medical history, current health, and aesthetic goals. She discusses procedure details, benefits, risks, and expected outcomes while evaluating the abdominal area. Patients are encouraged to ask questions and express concerns, ensuring they feel informed and confident in their decision.

What to Expect

Patients can expect personalized care throughout the process. The procedure is performed at an accredited outpatient surgical center, followed by post-operative appointments for monitoring and care. Recovery involves managing discomfort and swelling, with gradual improvement in abdominal contour over several weeks.

Important Considerations

  • Maximum discomfort occurs in the first few days post-surgery
  • Temporary burning sensation in the abdomen is normal
  • Drains are used and removed later in the clinic
  • Compression wear must be worn for 4-6 weeks post-surgery
  • 7-10 days off work is recommended, longer for physical jobs

Panniculectomy at Holland Plastic Surgery

Panniculectomy involves the surgical reduction of the pannus, the overhanging skin of the lower abdomen. It can be performed as a standalone procedure or combined with other abdominal surgeries for comprehensive results.

Post-Treatment Care

Dr. Holland provides detailed post-operative care instructions and remains accessible to address any concerns. Patients are guided on wound care, potential side effects, and follow-up appointments to ensure optimal healing.

Dr. Holland and her team always provide the utmost care, compassion, and professionalism. I have been a client for several years and I wouldn't want to go anywhere else to have my skincare needs met. I highly recommend this office.

This was my very first visit to this particular plastic surgeon. The staff is cordial, not overly friendly. Dr. Holland was very professional, confident but quite detached. She never used my first name as in “good morning Suzanne how are you today”? It was all about business, which I, guess is what you pay her for. One thing that could be done differently is under the operating room lights, I think an eye mask should have been offered. I also think that it’s not out of the question to be prescribed two or three pain tablets. I know doctors are paranoid about opiates however, they would have made the first 48 hours more tolerable. Something that I didn’t understand was that absolutely NO one contacted me the day after my procedure. It’s just common courtesy to check in on a patient to see how they’re doing and if they have any cares, or concerns. I would definitely recommend that this practice do that. It makes you feel slightly more cared for and that you are not just an invoice number. I had my procedure, I was “done and dusted” as we say in England, and that was the last I heard from anyone. My follow-up appointment time was scribbled on a sheet of paper that they handed me.

I cannot recommend and thank Dr. Holland enough. She is kind, intelligent and confident in her field. It's clear that she cares about the comfort of her patients very much. Dr. Holland listened to every word I said, and she answered every single question thoroughly, ensuring that I retained all of the information and concerns I had, regardless of how minor or stupid the questions I had felt to me. Dr. Holland is the only medical professional that I have felt seen and heard by. After going to at least 5 different doctors with concerns for the breast pain I had, which was, without exaggeration, ruining my quality of life, my concerns were dismissed as being unidentifiable and untreatable, with no cause for removal. Dr. Holland is the only doctor in Maine that offers mastectomy surgery, and she is incredible. I will be grateful for her kindness and talent for the rest of my life. I'm confident, comfortable, and the results are phenomenal. I truly feel that she saved my life. Thank you so much!!
