Understanding Breast Lift (Mastopexy) in Cleveland Area

A breast lift addresses breast sagging (ptosis) by reshaping and elevating breasts to a more youthful position on the chest wall. Factors like pregnancy, breastfeeding, and weight fluctuations can contribute to breast descent, making mastopexy an effective surgical solution.

Candidate Qualifications for Breast Lift

Ideal candidates for breast lift typically exhibit the following characteristics:

  • Experiencing breast sagging or asymmetry
  • Downward-pointing nipples below natural breast crease
  • Overly large or stretched areolas
  • Good general health
  • Realistic expectations about surgical outcomes

Surgical Technique and Approaches

Foglietti Fostyk Plastic Surgery offers three primary breast lift incision techniques:

  • Periareolar incision: circumscribing the areola's outer perimeter
  • Vertical or "lollipop" incision: around areola and vertically to breast crease
  • Anchor-shaped incision: combining periareolar and vertical techniques with horizontal extension

Procedure Details

The breast lift procedure is performed as an outpatient surgery under general anesthesia. Surgeons carefully lift and reshape underlying breast tissues, remove excess skin, and reposition the nipple and areola for a natural, elevated appearance.

Recovery and Expectations

Patients can expect initial bruising and swelling for several months. Most office workers return to normal activities within one week. Prescribed pain medication and specific post-operative instructions help manage recovery.

Potential Additional Enhancements

Patients may choose to combine breast lift with implants for increased volume or perform complementary procedures like liposuction to refine overall breast aesthetics.

Long-Term Results and Considerations

While a breast lift effectively restores youthful breast contours, results are not permanent. Factors like aging, weight changes, and pregnancy can impact long-term outcomes. Smaller breasts tend to maintain their lifted appearance more consistently.

I came to Dr. Fostyk for a consultation as I was extremely dissatisfied with my current reconstructive plastic surgeon. I had so much anxiety and unhappiness due to my previous doctor making all of the decisions about my size and my body without any regard to what I wanted and how I felt. At a time when I should have been feeling relieved and excited about my stage two surgery I was feeling panicked and not in control. Dr. Fostyk and ALL of her staff were a breath of fresh air. I felt that they really listened to all of my concerns and treated me with respect and care. Not only were they professional, but I felt like more than just another patient. I had weekly expansions for several weeks and during each appointment I felt comfortable and as though I was a part in what was going on with my body. Rachael was amazing as she always had a friendly smile and answered all of my questions. I fully trust these wonderful people and would recommend Dr. Fostyk to anyone who is considering plastic surgery or going through reconstructive surgery. I am excited to have Dr. Fostyk perform my surgery in December!

Dr. Fostyk is very compassionate. This is truly her calling because it shows through her work and work ethics. She has a way in making you feel confortable. I can barely see where she has operated on me. I will truly recommend other people to her. I will be making a additional appointements for Dr. Fostyk to perform other surgeries on me.
