Understanding Tummy Tuck Surgery in Chicago

Do you maintain a healthy diet and consistent fitness routine, yet struggle to achieve a lean, sculpted stomach? A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Florence Mussat can help you address stubborn abdominal concerns.

Why Patients Choose Abdominoplasty

Multiple factors can impact abdominal appearance, including aging, genetics, significant weight loss, and pregnancy. These experiences can cause:

  • Decreased collagen and elastin production
  • Sagging abdominal skin
  • Separated or weakened abdominal muscles

Ideal Tummy Tuck Candidates

Suitable candidates for tummy tuck surgery typically include individuals who:

  • Cannot improve midsection through diet and exercise
  • Have excess abdominal skin or damaged muscles
  • Are in good overall physical health
  • Maintain a stable body weight
  • Have realistic aesthetic expectations

The Tummy Tuck Procedure

Dr. Mussat performs tummy tuck surgery as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. The comprehensive approach includes:

  • Strategic liposuction
  • Carefully positioned horizontal incision
  • Excess skin removal
  • Abdominal muscle repair
  • Precise skin re-draping
  • Navel repositioning

Recovery and Results

Tummy tuck recovery varies by individual but generally involves:

  • Temporary drain tube placement
  • Initial bruising and swelling
  • Gradual return to normal activities
  • Compression garment support

Long-Term Tummy Tuck Outcomes

With proper weight maintenance and healthy lifestyle practices, tummy tuck results can remain stable for many years. Some natural tissue relaxation is expected with aging, but significant improvements will persist.

I saw her for a lipo consultation. She asked my family history like all doctors do but what they don't do is proceed to tell you that you WILL develop chronic diseases based on your history as if lifestyle plays no part as if it's a foregone conclusion. This person stated that I would have the same disorders as my parents but had zero test results to back this up. She ordered the tests but then proceeded to prescribe me medicine BEFORE she knew if I needed it or not. By the way, I just visited my doctor and was tested and the condition she prescribed me medicine for the test results showed I do not have! I've never experienced this before from any other doctor. I'm getting close to menopause. She asked me if I was experiencing hot flashes. I told her no. She said back to me as if I was lying, "you're not having hot flashes!" Again I said no. She was quiet. I told her about a skin condition that I suffer from and she turned up her nose. So unprofessional. Additionally, I love dogs but I was not pleased to see her cute little service dog walking through the examining room. If she must have a dog, wouldn't it make sense to keep him in her office. Overall, I wouldn't let this woman touch me with a 10 foot pole.

Hello all…I am now 7 months post op and wanted to share my experience with Dr Florence Mussat in Chicago Illinois. In the beginning, I consulted with two different surgeons. After meeting Dr Mussat it was case closed…hands down she was the one! Dr Mussat’s bedside manner is unparrallelled. She is caring and extremely skilled. She treated me like a sister, a best friend…family. DR. Mussat calmed all of my fears with her confident and kind demeanor. She really is lovely. An operation like this is so very emotional and personal, Dr. has a unique and beautiful understanding of it allI never felt rushed by her, and believe me, I had many questions and concerns. There wasn’t anything I felt weird talking with her about. Always on time and happy at my office visits …she made me feel like I was her only patient. She was always “present” in our time together, never distracted. DR Mussat goes above and beyond. I had to be seen the next morning by her. My husband and I stayed in a hotel downtown so not to have to travel the next morning and Dr Mussat came to me in the hotel so I didnt have to travel any more than necessary! She then monitored my progress through texts and pictures almost daily. This little French lady truly cares about people, she makes everyone feel beautiful…she is a class act from start to finish and I would absolutely recommend her. PS Dr. Mussat’s team, Erica and Loidy are also equally as helpful, caring and wonderful which always helps especially when your green and nervous. I required a lot of hand holding. They walked me all the way through the entire experience with patience and kindness. Thank you Dr. Mussat and team for giving me my health back, I am so grateful!❤️

Doctor Mussat is an incredible loving and very talented surgeon. She has so much compassion and understanding. She is also a teaching surgeon which makes you so comfortable. She will ask you a lot of questions to make sure you are in good health. She may tell you, you do not need surgery and recommend alternative treatments or prep for your surgery so well which I find that amazing ! Even for my botox treatment, she is incredible.

Lived through a nightmare. Surgery with her, nearly ruined my life. She was extremely late for my surgery, so while waiting I was in BIL groups reading and ran across a post saying to avoid her at all cost. I panicked as I was already having cold feet. My gut told me to not go through with it. I called the nurse in and told her, I decided I wanted to leave. She was already hours late and I was panicking. Miraculously, she suddenly appeared and I was telling her I wasn’t ready to do this. I was changing my mind. She just kept marking me up and telling me I needed to get my implants out. I was never loud, never causing any disruption; simply said no, I wasn’t doing it. Next thing I know, I’m waking up from surgery with a punctured lung. So not only was I medically kidnapped, I was injured…then she put me on benzos to cover the PTSD I suffered from the ordeal and they ruined my life. I lived in hell trying to get off those, tapering for a full year. I was told that I needed to press criminal charges against her and the hospital, but I didn’t… definitely avoid at all cost.
