Understanding Brow Lift Surgical Procedure

A brow lift procedure restores a more youthful appearance by correcting dropping brows and improving horizontal forehead lines. The surgery strategically removes or alters muscles and tissues to smooth the forehead and raise eyebrows.

Key Benefits of Brow Lift Surgery

  • Minimizes visible signs of aging
  • Reduces horizontal forehead lines
  • Elevates sagging eyebrows
  • Provides a refreshed, rejuvenated facial appearance

Ideal Candidates for Brow Lift in Portland

Typically, the best candidates for a brow lift are between 40 and 60 years old. Patients with inherited heavy brow conditions, stress-induced facial furrows, or those seeking to minimize aging effects are excellent candidates.

Complementary Procedures

Brow lift can be combined with other facial rejuvenation procedures such as facelift or blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) to achieve comprehensive facial enhancement.

Surgical Approach and Technique

Dr. Bartholomew employs a precise surgical technique, typically using a coronal incision hidden behind the hairline. The procedure involves lifting forehead skin, removing underlying tissue, and altering forehead muscles to achieve a smoother, more youthful appearance.

Incision Placement Considerations

  • Behind hairline for minimal scarring
  • At hairline for high or receding hairlines
  • Mid-scalp for balding patients

Recovery and Expectations

Most patients return to work within ten days following the procedure. Some temporary side effects include mild discomfort, swelling, and potential itching that typically resolves within six months.

Post-Surgical Recommendations

  • Keep head elevated to minimize swelling
  • Avoid vigorous physical activities for several weeks
  • Attend follow-up appointments

Potential Risks and Considerations

While complications are rare when performed by an experienced surgeon, potential risks include temporary nerve sensitivity, minor bleeding, or localized sensation changes.

I was telling Dr. Bartholomew about how multiple dermatologists refused to remove the mole from my cheek because it would be too difficult - he responded, "Well, I'm very good at what I do." It's true - he and his staff were super professional and streamlined the whole process. I'm mostly completely shocked by the lack of any scar at all (just discoloration and only two weeks out) - I've had tons of moles removed and am left with either a raised bump (shave removal) or a jagged line (oval removal). He was able to only use internal dissolvable sutures and covered it in skin glue and a butterfly bandage, which stayed on for a little over a week with showering. They gave me two pages on approaches to minimizing the appearance of a scar and my only complaint is that the paper said to start applying ointment day after which was inapplicable for me - and the papers didn't specify when you should start using the adhesive silicon strips so I slapped one on about 10 days after surgery and then panicked when I googled to see you shouldn't start those until 2 to 3 weeks post surgery - the strips instructions also didn't provide a timeline. Fortunately, I was able to remove it without harm through warm water.
