Understanding Lower Blepharoplasty

Lower blepharoplasty is a precise surgical procedure designed to address age-related changes in the lower eyelid region. As individuals age, gravitational forces and physiological processes can cause significant transformations in the periocular structures, often resulting in prominent under-eye bags and aesthetic concerns.

Common Lower Eyelid Concerns

  • Protrusion of lower eyelid fat pads
  • Redundant lower eyelid skin
  • Midface laxity and prominent cheek folds

Surgical Approach

Texas Eye Plastics offers two primary lower blepharoplasty techniques: a subconjunctival approach and an incision just beneath the lower eyelid lashes. The specific method depends on individual patient anatomy and aesthetic goals.

Surgical Techniques

  • Transconjunctival blepharoplasty (internal incision)
  • External incision below lower eyelid lashes
  • Potential simultaneous midface rejuvenation

Preoperative Evaluation

The surgical team conducts a comprehensive ophthalmologic examination, assessing eyelid function, ocular surface conditions, and potential dry eye risks. This meticulous approach ensures patient safety and optimal surgical outcomes.

Procedure Details

Lower blepharoplasty is typically performed under local anesthesia, with procedures lasting approximately one hour. The surgeons at Texas Eye Plastics specialize in minimally invasive techniques that minimize patient downtime and optimize aesthetic results.

Recovery and Aftercare

Patients can expect temporary bruising and swelling, which typically subsides within 1-2 weeks. Specialized postoperative care instructions include proper wound maintenance, antibiotic ointment application, and careful monitoring of healing progression.

Potential Benefits

  • Improved aesthetic appearance
  • Potential visual field enhancement
  • Minimal scarring
  • Minimal surgical downtime

I had eyelid surgery with Dr. Gilliland in December & my eye feels wonderful. The removal of my concretion was successful & he was the only doctor who listened to me and treated my eye surgically. Now my eye doesn’t hurt every time I blink. I would highly recommend him & Dr. Vrcek. I will use there office for any future surgeries I may need.

Extremely unprofessional clinic. I called ahead to confirm if they conduct vision tests for kids, and they assured me they did. After a 1-hour drive from ROCKWALL and taking my child out of school, we arrived only to find they don’t offer that service. The staff failed to provide a professional eye exam. When I asked why they scheduled us, the front desk had no explanation. This clinic deserves -1 star. I won’t be scheduling with them again. They couldn’t even explain why they booked the appointment. Thank you. Update Unacceptable they delete my review. This is means they only leave good star reviews and delete negative reviews. How Google can accept that ? I had my experience with this clinic please accept your mistakes not just only delete reviews. My time is precious same as yours . If I spend 1 hour to drive your clinic and need drive 1 hour back . Spending my time , my gas , my child time . When those time we can used wisely not being on the road . Teach your stuff how important time is . Thank you. Update . My child had appointment on 19 September 2024 at 9.30 am . This clinic even don’t check their records. Point of this review why did you guys book us in first place for appointment? When I clearly ask on the phone I would like to check my daughter vision . Your stuff said : they do provide this service . Please pull out record when I called to schedule appointment. I lost so many hours , when those ours I can make so much more things not being on the road . Your stuff doesn’t think and don’t value patience time . My team is precious. Check one more time your record . Thank you …

Very happy so far with how my eyelid is healing! I got an upper eyelid blepharoplasty on just the left eye on Nov. 22nd. And I got Botox on the right side of my forehead to slightly lower that eyebrow on Dec. 6th. It’s only been 2.5 weeks since surgery, so it still has a ways to go to completely heal and not be as puffy in some spots, but I think it looks great so far. I was trying to take some selfies tonight and do a little comparison. The first pic is from November and the 2nd pic is from just now. As you can see, my left eye was very hooded compared to the right and even my eyebrows were at an uneven height. But now, it looks a lot less hooded and my right eyebrow isn’t a lot higher than the left anymore. Can’t wait to see the final results in a couple more weeks when it’s more fully healed! If you ever need to see an ocular plastic surgeon in DFW, I highly recommend Dr. Vrcek. He was informative on what could be done to help with the asymmetry and is very knowledgeable. The surgery was very quick and there was no pain afterwards. He is very professional and very skilled at what he does!
