What is a Breast Lift (Mastopexy)?
A breast lift, medically known as mastopexy, is a surgical procedure designed to elevate and reshape the breast while repositioning the nipple and areolar complex. The procedure can be performed independently or combined with breast augmentation to achieve the patient's desired breast size and shape.
Types of Breast Lift Techniques
Dr. Craig Rock offers multiple breast lift techniques tailored to individual patient needs:
1. Crescent Mastopexy
- Repositions nipple/areolar complex a short distance higher
- Results in a scar along the upper edge of the areola
2. Peri-Areolar ("Donut") Mastopexy
- Repositions nipple/areolar complex
- Removes extra skin from the front of the breast
- Can decrease areola size
- Results in a scar around the edge of the areola
3. Vertical Mastopexy ("Lollipop")
- Repositions nipple/areolar complex higher on the breast
- Removes extra skin from above and below the areola
- Can decrease areola size
- Results in scars around areola and extending downward
4. Full ("Anchor") Mastopexy
- Most comprehensive breast lift technique
- Repositions nipple/areolar complex
- Removes extra skin from multiple breast areas
- Can modify areola size
- Results in multiple strategic scars
Surgical Approach and Recovery
The specific areas of skin removal and resulting scar pattern are customized for each patient, considering their initial breast appearance and aesthetic goals. Patients are fitted with a sports bra during surgery, typically worn continuously for the first two weeks to support healing.
Return to Work and Activities
Most patients who do not perform physically strenuous tasks can return to work within a few days following the procedure. Activity levels are individualized based on the specific lift technique performed.
