Horrific experience after surgery by Dr. Peter J. Hillsamer, MD. He scheduled my surgery after one very brief appointment. In my opinion he is not a competent surgeon. I was provided with a brochure just prior to my surgery date. I only met with Dr. Hillsamer one more time prior to the surgery. I asked for imaging, he declined. In the brochure, and within the information I was told the recovery area would be a private space (it was not). That the doctor would speak to me, he did not.
Just before surgery Dr. Hillsamer stated he would do exploratory surgery while I was having my tonsils and adenoids removed. He wanted to “shave down my hyoid bone”. Yet that had not been discussed once prior. I told him not to do it. I wanted to leave, and he said he wouldn’t do it.
After surgery I woke up in a tiny room, it was the size of a closet, or storage area, to a nurse (or technician) slapping my face telling me “if you don’t wake up you’re going to the emergency department”. Then she complained “oh my god you’re still bleeding all over”. I could see her moving a washcloth across my face but I couldn’t feel it. I kept drifting in and out of consciousness. When I did eventually wake up I had sinus tachycardia, and shortness of breath. She then moved me to an area where there were curtain dividers. I could hear the patients recovering in the areas next to me. No doctor came to assess me. I kept stating something was wrong. I received no help. I was a healthy woman, normal weight, in my early twenties with no know health issues.
After the surgery I experienced a strange clicking in my neck, sharp pain, and bleeding. I had sinus tachycardia, and I called to request an examination. I was told to wait.
Approximately 4-6 weeks following the surgery I went back to Dr. Hillsamer for my post surgery examination. As I sat in the waiting area I overheard a couple discussing one of their experiences with a horrible surgery by Dr. Hillsamer. My husband, and my kids were in the waiting room with me. I was called back and taken to what appeared to be a regular exam room. A nurse told me the doctor would be right in. Shortly after that Dr. Hillsamer came in. He asked me to come with him to a smaller room, it was tiny. He put something in the nose, some sort of spray. I immediately had issues breathing. I had sinus tachycardia again, I told him something was wrong. Yet he said you’re fine, this won’t take long. I told him I needed to leave and he held my arm and said no. Then he started to proceed with using a camera I think to look at my throat. I remember him stopping and saying “are you okay”. I said” No’”. He took my blood pressure, and then opened the door yelling to call 911. I was taken away through the waiting area via EMS in front of my children, and taken to the hospital.
It has been many years since this botched surgery. I have suffered for years with pain in my throat, and neck.
If I could leave zero stars I would. I believe I was inexperienced enough not to recognize manipulation by a doctor. It is clear to me now that Dr. Hillsamer wants to schedule as many surgeries as he can. This in my opinion is not an ethical practice. I have suffered greatly because of my experience there. I do not believe the surgery was justified, or necessary. Based on my injuries caused by him, I had burns on the inside of my cheeks, roof of my mouth, lips. Plus more! I believe he broke my trust and did not adhere to what was agreed upon prior to surgery. The recovery was nothing like described in the visits or brochure. I felt like I was insignificant.
I would never recommend this practice to anyone!

Dr. Hillsamer and his staff were not interested in solving my issues that happened as a result of adult ear tubes that he placed. When I complained of hearing loss from the tubes, I was given a hearing test. It showed loss. The response was "I'm speechless." Did not address my other alternatives and only suggested continuing ear drops that did nothing. This went on for 10 weeks until I found a new ENT . At one point, after calling the office several times, I was told to stop focusing on it by one of his clinicians.

I was referred here and have received nothing but a dial tone every time I call for almost two weeks now. I can’t get a hold of them.

He gave me empty nose syndrome - then when I later shared my diagnosis with him by another, much more capable ENT, he denied I had ENS. Went on a rant about how no one has ever complained about his surgeries. Then he told me I couldn’t come back to his practice - like I’d want to.
