Understanding Breast Lift Surgery

A breast lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to elevate and tighten breasts by removing excess skin and surgically reinforcing surrounding tissue. Dr. Pierre Chevray, a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon in Houston, TX, specializes in breast lift procedures for women experiencing breast sagging from factors like breastfeeding, weight loss, aging, or gravity.

Breast Lift vs. Breast Augmentation

Unlike breast augmentation, a breast lift focuses on repositioning and reshaping existing breast tissue without significantly changing breast size. Patients seeking both enhanced volume and elevation can combine a breast lift with breast augmentation for comprehensive results.

Breast Lift Candidacy

Ideal candidates for a breast lift typically include women who:

  • Have sagging or pendulous breasts
  • Experience downward-pointing nipples
  • Are in good overall health
  • Maintain a stable, healthy weight
  • Are non-smokers

Surgical Techniques

Dr. Chevray employs three primary breast lift incision techniques:

  • Donut Incision:
  • Lollipop Incision:
  • Anchor Incision:

Surgical Procedure Details

A typical breast lift procedure takes 2-4 hours under general anesthesia. The surgery involves removing excess skin, repositioning breast tissue, and potentially resizing the areola to create a more balanced, youthful appearance.

Recovery and Results

Patients can typically resume normal activities within two weeks, with full aesthetic results developing over 2-12 months. Minor discomfort, swelling, and bruising are normal during initial recovery.

Long-Term Considerations

While a breast lift can dramatically improve breast shape, results are not permanent. Factors like weight fluctuations, aging, and pregnancy can impact long-term outcomes. Maintaining a stable weight and healthy lifestyle can help preserve surgical results.

I had the best experience during a difficult time. Dr. Chevray gave me a choice and voice with my surgery. I chose the Diep Flap procedure for my reconstruction after a double mastectomy. The scars are barely visible, I had no infection, and only two surgeries. Both times, Dr. Chevray took the time to explain the whole process and what to expect in great detail. I highly recommend Dr. Chevray and his team!

I am 63 years old and survived breast cancer 14 years ago. Treatment was chemo, radiation and a double mastectomy with expander and implant reconstruction. My breasts looked abnormal. I recently learned of Dr. Chevray and DIEP flap surgery was so excited and grateful to have this surgery. I am now 9 weeks out from DIEP flap surgery and want to share what an excellent experience this has been. Dr Chevray, Patrick and Carol are outstanding! They are kind, caring, talented and always available! I would recommend Dr Chevray and team to everyone. The results are amazing! I feel normal and so happy looking in the mirror now. I had the best care at Houston Methodist as well through surgery and recovery. I am forever grateful!!!!

I highly recommend Dr. Chevray and his Team. I visited Dr. Chevray for the first time in late 2019 at the advice of my breast surgeon after continuous abnormal breast MRIs. At my initial consultation, Dr. Chevray sat with me for nearly two hours and detailed every option related to a breast reconstruction, hospital stay, recovery, potential side effects, possibilities of infection and common “revision” surgeries. Dr. Chevray answered every single question. I took the advice of Dr. Chevray and decided on the DIEP Flap procedure. I had a couple of pre-op appointments with Dr. Chevray and His Team. Ms. Carol even shared her cell phone number and told me to reach out after the surgery any time! The morning of the surgery Patrick and Dr. Chevray came by to check on me and discuss the surgery. I had my surgery during 2021 COVID procedures so no family – just this amazing Team. I was 100% confident and comfortable. My recovery – exactly as Nurse Carol prepared us – how to manage the drains, medications, when and how to remove bandages. I had a couple of minor revision surgery and an infection and new implant. All of these issues were discussed at the first meeting and managed impeccably by Dr. Chevray and his Team. I had my final surgery in the spring of 2024 and I cannot be more pleased with the results of my surgeries. I will forever be grateful for Dr. Chevray, Nurse Carol and Patrick for their exception professionalism and care.
