Understanding Ear Surgery

Ear surgery, medically known as otoplasty, is a specialized procedure designed to address cosmetic and functional concerns with ear shape, size, and positioning. This transformative treatment helps patients achieve improved facial symmetry and enhanced self-confidence.

Pediatric Ear Correction

For children, ear surgery often involves "pinning" protruding ears to prevent potential social challenges. The procedure becomes viable when ears reach full size, typically between five and six years old. Early intervention can help children avoid bullying and develop positive self-esteem.

Surgical Techniques

Ear surgery techniques vary depending on specific anatomical considerations. Potential approaches include:

  • Reshaping insufficient ear cartilage
  • Reducing excessive cartilage near the ear canal
  • Repositioning ears closer to the head
  • Addressing asymmetrical ear contours

Surgical Procedure Details

Robert Anderson performs otoplasty under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. The surgery typically requires approximately two hours, with strategic incisions placed within natural ear folds to minimize visible scarring.

Recovery and Expectations

Post-surgical recovery involves initial discomfort and wearing protective bandaging. Patients can expect gradual healing over approximately two weeks, with careful monitoring recommended to ensure optimal results.

Procedure Highlights

  • Average Procedure Time: 2-3 hours
  • Recovery Period: Approximately 2 weeks
  • Anesthesia: General
  • Surgical Location: Outpatient Facility

Dr. Anderson is the best. His team is amazing. Tabitha is Dr. Anderson's nurse, she went above and beyond for me. She was always there for me. The people that handled my short-term disability, kept asking for paperwork. If it wasn't for her, I would have gone crazy. They really took care of me there.
