Understanding Revision Rhinoplasty in Manhattan

Revision rhinoplasty is a complex surgical procedure designed to correct unsatisfactory results from a previous nose surgery. This intricate technique requires exceptional surgical skill, precise planning, and an in-depth understanding of nasal architecture.

Surgical Complexity and Expertise

As one of the most challenging cosmetic surgeries, revision rhinoplasty demands a surgeon with specialized expertise. Dr. Sherrell Aston, an elite member of The Rhinoplasty Society, brings extensive experience in addressing sophisticated nasal reconstruction challenges.

Revision Techniques

  • Full Rhinoplasty Revision: Complete structural reconstruction
  • Touch-Up Rhinoplasty: Minor adjustments and refinements
  • Cartilage and Bone Restructuring
  • Potential Grafting Procedures

Surgical Approach to Secondary Nose Surgery

Open rhinoplasty technique allows comprehensive access to the nose's supporting framework. This method enables precise correction of internal structures, ensuring both aesthetic improvement and functional restoration.

Surgical Considerations

Depending on the specific case, revision rhinoplasty may be performed using local or general anesthesia. The procedure typically occurs on an outpatient basis, with expected post-operative bruising and swelling.

Common Revision Scenarios

Approximately 10% of rhinoplasty cases involve secondary procedures. These range from minor touch-ups to significant reconstructive interventions addressing structural or aesthetic concerns from initial surgeries.

Key Revision Objectives

  • Restore proper nasal support
  • Improve aesthetic symmetry
  • Maintain or enhance nasal function
  • Achieve natural-looking results

Choosing an Expert Revision Rhinoplasty Surgeon

Selecting a surgeon with specialized experience is critical. Dr. Aston's profound understanding of nasal architecture and commitment to precise surgical techniques ensures optimal outcomes for patients seeking secondary nose surgery.

I was a patient of Dr Aston about 8 years ago and I’m shocked to see that he is still practicing. After the work he did, I had numbness on my right and left sides of my face, right along my jawline. I waited several months before calling him to ask if and when the numbness would go away. He said that he never had a patient say they were numb so many months after surgery and he acted like he doubted me. He kept saying, “Don't be the first one to have this problem,”, as though it were in my control. Nine years later, the numbness is still there and hasn’t lessened one iota. My assumption is that he must have cut through a nerve or two and didn’t want to admit it. He never asked me to come into the office so he could check, nor did he ever follow up to see if the numbness got better. You should not go to Dr Aston when there are so many thousands of good surgeons out there who won’t cut your nerves and leave you numb! I say run the other way as fast as you can.

I just had a facelift, and I am so sorry I didn’t do it sooner. This was easy and painless (just mild discomfort). I look so NATURAL! Dr. Aston put me at ease, as I was terrified (for no reason looking back now). I would do this again in a heartbeat. This man has drastically changed my life! He did my nose when I was younger too, taking me from what people described me as “hideous” before, to the complete opposite! I can’t say enough about how awesome and talented this man is. Dr. Aston is the world’s BEST!

Dr Aston did my nose when I was 15. The tip of my nose is still big. I was left with a very visible scar!! :( the scar looks terrible. I do not recommend. Although, him and his staff were very nice I’m not 100% happy with the results …

Had a rhinoplasty here a couple of years ago - I was getting Botox & filler at another office, but the RN I was seeing moved to Dallas so I figured the RN at the plastic surgeon office where I had a good experience 2 years ago would be good. It was bad - I’ve gotten it done multiple times now & this just was not good. She also messed up the filler on the bow of my lip, it’s not even at all. Great surgeon — but probably shouldn’t go for anything else the RN didn’t do a good job.
