Understanding Facelift Procedures in Charleston County

A facelift, medically known as a rhytidectomy, is a sophisticated cosmetic surgery designed to restore a more youthful appearance. At Sweetgrass Plastic Surgery, patients in Charleston, Summerville, Mt Pleasant, Daniel Island, and West Ashley can achieve remarkable facial rejuvenation through advanced surgical techniques.

What is a Facelift?

A facelift is a comprehensive procedure that tightens, smooths, and firms facial skin to create a contoured, youthful appearance. Modern techniques ensure natural-looking results that make patients appear well-rested and refreshed, not artificially altered.

Types of Facelift Procedures

Mini Facelift

The mini facelift targets the lower third of the face, making it ideal for addressing specific concerns. By utilizing small incisions above the ears, surgeons can: • Correct wrinkles around the mouth • Reduce sagging along the jawline • Refine chin contours • Minimize pronounced smile lines

Who is an Ideal Facelift Candidate?

Candidates for facelift surgery typically exhibit: • Visible facial lines and wrinkles • Sagging facial skin • Loss of facial volume • Desire for comprehensive facial rejuvenation

Facelift Procedure Details

Sweetgrass Plastic Surgery performs facelifts under general anesthesia using a specialized approach: • Strategically placed hairline incisions • Access to the SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) layer • Elevation and repositioning of facial soft tissues • Precise removal of excess fat and tissue • Careful skin redraping and trimming

Recovery and Results

The typical facelift recovery period spans approximately two weeks. Results can last several years, providing patients with a significantly more youthful and refreshed appearance.

I have recently had the pleasure of having my second surgery by Dr Blum. I have to say never in all my years in the medical field have I met a more caring, knowledgeable and patient friendly doctor. He continues to make himself available anytime which is so reassuring and he is always willing to answer my questions or see me if needed. His staff has been extraordinary as well. Everyone treats you as if you are the most important person coming through those doors and they are eager to help you with anything you need. My surgeries have been amazing so far and I can’t wait to see the final product! Thank you Dr Blum and staff for your amazing work and for providing me the reassurance when I need it and the information to make the best choices for my body. You guys are the absolute best!!!!

Five stars all the way!! Dr. Schimpf is very talented and compassionate!! I cannot say enough about his entire staff from the front desk to the assistants and nurses!! They are all professional and caring. I had a very challenging case and Dr. Schimpf did everything he could do until he achieved amazing results for me. I am sincerely grateful for his incredible skills as a plastic surgeon and so happy that I did my research and chose him!! I would highly recommend Dr. Schimpf and will definitely use his services again for any cosmetic procedures! His anesthesiologist, Chris, is also awesome! He has an incredible ability to make you feel at ease. Thank you all for being the best at what you do!!

they blasted my face with a big laser :(( It was pretty good. the staff want to say things like "healing serum" instead of telling me what's in the goo and how it works, but I'm here because they know more than me, so you know what fair enough

It has taken a lot of me to confront the that the horrific results of what Dr. Schimf has done to my eyes are most likely permanent. I had an upperbleph during the summer of 2023 and my eyes were left uneven and disfigured. This was a revision bleph after it was obvious that more skin would need to be removed. Shimpf seemed very angry and unpleasant during the revision. I remember him shining the lamp directly in my eyes while telling me to keep them open, and prodding me hard against my skin with the needle as he sown my eyes unevenly. (This was not at all my experience with the first bleph he did.) It was obvious to me that this was a man with a bruised ego. My right eye looks like I have been in some kind of traumatic accident and is asymmetrical to the left. In pictures it looks like my right eye is 1.5x the size of my left. I think about what happened when I look in the mirror, and still can’t come to terms with such a cruel act from someone that I trusted be professional and empathetic.
