Understanding Abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasty, commonly known as a tummy tuck, is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen while tightening abdominal muscles. This comprehensive body contouring technique addresses muscle weakness and skin laxity that cannot be resolved through diet and exercise alone.

Key Procedure Benefits

  • Removes excess abdominal skin and fat
  • Tightens weakened or separated abdominal muscles
  • Improves overall abdominal profile and body contour
  • Addresses post-pregnancy and significant weight loss changes

Ideal Candidates for Tummy Tuck

Optimal candidates for abdominoplasty include individuals in relatively good physical condition who have:

  • Persistent excess abdominal skin
  • Weakened abdominal muscles
  • Localized fat deposits unresponsive to diet and exercise

Important Considerations

Patients considering a tummy tuck should be at a stable weight and not planning future pregnancies. The procedure is most effective for individuals seeking to address specific abdominal contour concerns.

Surgical Approach and Recovery

The tummy tuck procedure typically takes approximately two hours and is performed under appropriate anesthesia. Patients can expect a recovery period of 1-5 days before returning to work, with light exercise resuming around three weeks post-surgery.

Postoperative Care

  • Compression garment recommended for 1-2 weeks
  • Mild discomfort managed with prescribed medication
  • Follow-up appointments to monitor healing

Mini Tummy Tuck Option

For patients with minimal excess skin and fat in the lower abdomen, a mini tummy tuck offers a less extensive surgical approach with shorter scarring and reduced recovery time.

Great experience! In and out quickly. He's the only doctor there now that his companion retired. He has done a great job of creating a medically oriented facility (no cosmetics which I like!) in which he is the only caregiver.... versus a slew of PA's. Very personable. I was ultimately very pleased. I had to wait a little while on my first visit (40 minutes but what is that compared to other offices I visit) but he informed me that coming in earlier would get me in earlier. I haven't had to wait very long since. Great doctor, friendly staff.
