About Arm Lift Surgery

Excess skin from the elbow to the upper arm is a common challenge after significant weight loss or aging. Often called "bat wings," arm lift surgery (brachioplasty) effectively removes hanging skin that cannot be toned through exercise and diet. At Forma Plastic Surgery in Scottsdale, AZ, plastic surgeons specialize in skin tightening and fat removal surgeries.

Benefits of Arm Lift Surgery

A personalized arm lift in Scottsdale offers multiple advantages:

  • Outpatient procedure
  • Removes loose skin and excess fat
  • Tightens and firms arm contours
  • Achieves a more youthful, toned appearance
  • Improves mobility and comfort
  • Expands wardrobe options
  • Boosts self-confidence

Candidate Requirements for Arm Lift

Ideal candidates for arm lift surgery are individuals in good overall health who are at or near their ideal weight. Patients typically experience excess, hanging skin on upper arms with reduced skin elasticity. Those who avoid sleeveless clothing due to arm appearance are excellent candidates for this transformative procedure.

Arm Lift Surgical Procedure

Forma Plastic Surgery performs arm lift surgery under general anesthesia, typically as an outpatient treatment. The procedure involves surgically removing sagging skin from the elbow to the armpit, sometimes incorporating liposuction. Surgeons carefully place incisions to minimize visible scarring while achieving optimal arm contouring.

Recovery and Aftercare

Recovery generally takes approximately two weeks, requiring arm elevation and rest. Patients should avoid strenuous activities for 4-5 weeks. Forma Plastic Surgery offers comprehensive scar management options, including silicone sheeting and microneedling treatments to minimize surgical scarring.

Preparing for Your Arm Lift

Preparation involves multiple steps to ensure optimal surgical outcomes. Patients may need to quit smoking, adjust medications, and obtain medical clearance. Your plastic surgeon will provide comprehensive pre-operative guidelines during the initial consultation.

Patient Considerations

Patients should maintain a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise and balanced nutrition to preserve surgical results. Weight training can help improve arm muscle tone once fully healed and cleared by the surgical team.

Consultation and Next Steps

For patients struggling with excess arm skin and seeking to restore confidence, Forma Plastic Surgery offers personalized arm lift consultations. The skilled team can help determine the most appropriate treatment plan for individual body contouring goals.

Dr. Yao performed an upper blepharoplasty on me as an in-office procedure in June, 2024. The procedure was completed in under an hour. I felt minimal discomfort during the procedure. Dr. Yao went above and beyond to explain the procedure in all stages; before, during, and after. Even though I am an operating room nurse and aesthetic nurse injector, Dr. Yao treated me as a person having the procedure for the first time and that made me feel taken care of as well as well-informed. As an operating room nurse, I’ve seen many surgeons who do these procedures well. I chose Dr. Yao because he has consistent results, excellent communication skills, and follows up routinely.

First of all I was the second person to be brought in to the office at 1:00 I sat and waited for dr Yao as he went to four other people before me for over an hour. Very ignorant and did not want to listen to me and was in and out of the room in less than five or so minutes. I can’t even imagine what his two residents thought of his ignorance and non ethical behavior. I guess having MEDICARE and a great secondary insurance means nothing
